Multistore Mechanism in Magento

Cooperation between Divante and RASP started in March 2015. RASP had been looking for a solution that allows the flexible use of the online channel to sell its products. A concept of implementation and development of the shop platform for all publications, based on one engine and Multistore mechanism in Magento, was developed.

RASP needed a platform for selling products over the Internet, which would also allow for the creation of standalone services for each RASP editorial. The platform had to have both standard eCommerce features, such as an attractive appearance, advanced product search, status management, and order control, and also had to be convenient for mobile browsing, be equipped with unusual features such as subscriptions and collections, and have the possibility of selling products from external suppliers.

Scope of the project:

  • preparation of business concept and strategy
  • prototyping
  • graphic design
  • implementation
  • integration
  • service tests
  • maintenance and development.

  • UX designers
  • Graphic Designers
  • Front-End Developers
  • Back-End Developers
  • Testers
  • Project Manager.

During the project for RASP we worked using the SCRUM methodology on both sides – both at Divante and at the Client’s end. Thanks to this, RASP was able to control the results of the work.

So far, we have implemented three stores: literia.pl, ksiegarnia.przegladsportowy.pl and sklep.newsweek.pl together with the version adapted for use on mobile devices (RWD).

The biggest challenge in this project was the complex integration of Magento with postpaid products, ERP – Perdix systems and with third party vendors.

The platform also utilizes features such as:

  • payment gateway
  • external mailing system
  • dropshipping
  • virtual shelf
  • register and log Onet-SSO
  • installment payments
  • advanced SOLR search.

An additional challenge was to design a skeleton that would serve not only one eCommerce service but the entire retail chain for individual RASP editors. Therefore, the project was originally created using modular Web Design.

During the design of the site we used RWD technology (displaying sections on different devices) and minimalism (as a trend in design). We performed “guerrilla tests” with potential users, prototyped views using Axure software, and produced look & feel variants (using Illustrator and Photoshop).

Our system allows us to implement another service even in about 2 weeks. Thanks to well-thought-out modularity, you can quickly and easily create your next store’s graphic design – just change labels on product views, slides, headers, look & feel, etc. This speeds up implementation work while maintaining the quality of the implemented solutions.

The new platform has been enhanced with several features that meet the latest trends in User Experience. Customers can benefit from features such as end-of-subscription reminders, featured product information by email, unpaid wire transfer reminders, push notifications for promotions and collections.

Plans for the future

  • Implementation of other stores for other RASP brands.
  • Implementing other suppliers of digital and physical products from the industry.
  • Development of an online sales channel for the whole RASP group.

Thanks to the nimble work with the customer in the SCRUM methodology and the involvement of teams, a very high-quality platform with many dedicated functionalities was created. Based on the Magento engine we are ready to implement new shop windows for separate customer brands within 2 weeks.

Cooperation with the developer team from Divante has always worked out perfectly. Although its composition changed, in terms of competence we could never complain about the quality of the cooperation. The only thing that evolved was the methodology of co-operation; initially our SCRUM was a bit broken, but over time we have improved our methodology more and more in accordance with SCRUM methodology standards.
